On Feb. 10th, 2022, I got hired to be the film producer for a photoshoot for a filmmaker client who is making a dramatic film about our first responders and the alarming rate of mental health issues they suffer from. Especially our paramedics. They see trauma every single day. Currently entitled The Thrill is Gone!
We could have easily used free stock photos and saved some cash but we decided to go for broke and work on an original concept photography shoot that captured the spirit of the screenplay. So I hired one of the best photographers in town, the brilliant Sonny M. I also hired four amazing actors and the SFX Makeup Artist guru Miguel Cantu!
Granted they are some talented photographers who offer their stills for free on numerous stock photo websites but nothing beats original work.
As a filmmaker, your photoshoot is your first test as a film director or film producer. This is where you capture the first visuals of your film. I can’t stress how important using photos in your film business plan packages, pitch decks, and movie posters are. You have to visually invite your potential film investor or donor into the mood of your film. Whether it’s a drama, horror, sci-fi, comedy, or action. We are visual storytellers. If you can afford to hire me and my team to do an original photoshoot or do it yourself you have to be creative! I moved heaven and earth to set up this intense photo shot. Firetrucks, ambulances, and real firemen and paramedics.
